Recently, the Office of the Shandong Natural Resources Science and Technology Award Committee issued the "Notice on the Award-Winning Achievements of the 2026 Shandong Natural Resources Science and Technology Award." The achievement "Implementation and Application of a Marine Ranch Big Data Platform Based on Hadoop and Deep Learning," jointly completed by GreatWay Ocean Technology Co., Ltd. together with Yantai University, the Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Shandong Provincial Station for Fisheries Development and Resource Conservation and the Changdao National Marine Park Management Center, won the Second Prize of the 2026 Shandong Natural Resources Science and Technology Award (Science and Technology Progress Award). This honor is further strong evidence of GW-OCEAN’s commitment to its "intelligent marine equipment + industry big data" dual-engine development path.
The digital transformation of marine ranches has long been hampered by "data silos" — diverse data sources, inconsistent structures and poor sharing. To address this, the project team, grounded in the industry’s real needs, built a big data processing architecture with Hadoop at its core, tailored to the massive, multi-modal and time-series data of marine ranches; set up a multi-source heterogeneous data lake with HDFS as its unified storage foundation; and integrated Spark and Kafka to achieve high-concurrency, real-time computation of marine environmental data, systematically solving the efficient storage, computation and management of massive data. As the enterprise partner, GW-OCEAN took a deep part in platform implementation and scenario validation, precisely aligning big data governance capabilities with the management logic of marine ranches and pushing ranches from "digitalization" toward "intelligence."
The value of technology must ultimately be delivered on the front line of industry. The achievement has been successfully deployed at the Shandong Provincial Station for Fisheries Development and Resource Conservation and promoted for application across 139 marine ranches in the province. The provincial modern marine ranch integrated management system independently developed by GW-OCEAN integrates GIS, satellite remote sensing, the Internet of Things, cloud computing and AI; it has processed more than 300 TB of data in total and has become China’s first provincial-level benchmark platform for integrated marine ranch management. From real-time transmission of key parameters such as water temperature, dissolved oxygen and salinity, to automatically generated water-quality trends and farming recommendations; from dynamic supervision of aquaculture vessels, to radar and electro-optical systems weaving a tighter maritime safety net for marine ranch platforms — this "intelligent brain" is turning refined marine ranch management from a vision into everyday practice. The project has obtained 11 patents and 5 software copyrights in total, with significant economic and social benefits.
This award is both recognition of innovation achieved through deep integration of industry, academia and research, and a source of technological confidence for GW-OCEAN’s full-space empowerment as it moves from "marine ranches" to "offshore ranches." From "seabed observation networks" safeguarding the "blue granary" to AI models empowering aquaculture, GW-OCEAN’s core products now cover more than 30 provinces and municipalities nationwide and serve over 500 enterprises and public institutions. Going forward, GW-OCEAN will continue to deepen industry–academia–research collaboration, with data as its anchor and intelligence as its sail, driving the marine industry’s leap from "experience-driven" to "data-driven" and contributing stronger "GW-OCEAN strength" to building China into a maritime power.
